Usscan's Observation Rules

  • This short story series will be based on the alien journal called Usscan's Observations.

  • The alien journal will be called Usscan's Observations.

  • This is a work of fiction. Please do not take anything in these stories seriously.

  • This project is scheduled to last a minimum of 12 months (or approximate 26 short stories). At that time, Clark Stone will determine if he will take the story-line further.

  • The stories/observations will be written in English. All attempts to catch errors in spelling and grammar will be made but some will get through. (Hey, perfect, I'm not.!?)

  • One exception to this rule is that when there is a word in the character's language that cannot be translated, the alien word may appear in the stories/observations. The author will try to use these words in context that should allow for one to guess its meaning.

  • At some point in the future, I plan to create links to the definitions of the alien words that appear in the stories/observations.

  • The short stories/observations will be written in either the alien's point of view or any other character involved in the short story.

  • Author will post a short story every other week. There may be times when there will be a post every week. Author will note when that will happen.

  • He will attempt to have two to three short stories in the queue at all times.

  • Author will attempt to post an observation every two to three days. There may be times when there will be more time between each observation. Author will attempt to note when that will happen.

  • He will attempt to have two to three weeks of observations in the queue at all times.

  • Everything will be made up as the project goes along.

  • The author may make references to various events that go on in the community.

  • The author will try to pull from everyday events that he comes across or humorous situations that he may observe.

  • The story may contain elements of mystery, humor, sci fi, among other things.

  • The author is willing to take suggestions from anyone who wishes to send them to him. Please keep the suggestions clean. ;-)

  • Once an entry has been posted, it will not be changed.

  • Exceptions to the 'no change rule' are the rules file, dictionary files, character files. When additions are needed to these files, they will be updated.

  • The observations will be posted as both HTML and Acrobat PDF files.

  • The PDF file will contain anywhere from 1 to 6 short stories depending on the story size and will be posted a couple weeks after the HTML version.

  • The short stories may range from 1,500 to 10,000 words. (Note: Author will attempt to keep each post at about 2,500 words. A 10,000-word short story may be broken down into four 2,500-word or five 2,000-word segments. This will be the situation where there may be a post a week.

  • The Observations should be between 250 - 750 words.

  • Most of all, and this warrants being repeated: this is a work of fiction. It is done in the spirit of entertainment and not out of malice toward any one person.
